We have had a high number of dogs test positive for Lyme disease this spring. Lyme disease is transmitted by deer ticks. If your dog is exposed to any ticks, we recommend testing and vaccinating for Lyme disease. The test takes about 10 minutes and is run here in the clinic.
Horses may also get Lyme disease, but less than 10% ever develop symptoms. There is no vaccine currently available for Lyme disease in horses.
Symptoms of Lyme disease include stiffness in joints, lethargy, and/or fever. Some animals won't show any symptoms.
To help prevent Lyme disease, we recommend using a topical or oral preventative. Becker Veterinary Clinic carries a variety of products to suit your individual needs.
